A Heart for Memphis.png

First Church has a heart for the people of Memphis. We have a dream to make things better, to reach people with food and shelter and other basic needs in order to encourage them and build them up. The need is staggering. There are people right here in our city who so desperately need our help.

In the Fall of 2013, First Church received two unexpected donations of approximately $1 million each to be used for the rebuilding of the sanctuary. These donations became a catalyst of prayer, discussion, planning, and redesigning that has led us to the vote on January 17 by the church membership to complete the building of the historic sanctuary destroyed in 2006.

In addition to the community outreach efforts to provide food, shelter, and community to the people of Memphis, First Church will construct a new place for worship on the corner of Poplar and Second. This will provide the much-needed rebuilding of the 113-year-old sanctuary destroyed in the fire of 2006.

Impact in our community.png

First Church has been making an impact in the Memphis community throughout it’s nearly-200-year history. Currently partnering with several local non-profit organizations, we are able to provide meals for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, community for the lonely, and hope for those in despair.

Through adversity, fire, and rebuilding, our heart for our community is strong. We believe we are called to continue providing the most fundamental needs to local individuals and families - food, shelter, worship, and community.

It Starts with You.png

This will be a multi-year campaign in which we will encourage individuals in Memphis and the surrounding communities to give offerings to support this project and our continued growth in serving the inner city. Most gifts will be given over a multi-year period with a suggested timeframe of three years. We anticipate some individuals will be able to give large gifts in the form of publicly traded stocks, unencumbered property, assigned life insurance cash value, gifts-in-kind and/or cash.

Funds from Build Up Memphis will enable us to complete construction and open the doors for ongoing ministry in downtown Memphis.
